CONCURRENT WORKSHOPS
  • Defense Manufacturing Readiness Processes and Training
    Mr. Gary Stanley
USAF/AFRL, DOD MRL Working Group Chairman
The Defense Manufacturing Readiness Processes and Training session at this year’s DMC will provide a quick background on Manufacturing Readiness Levels (MRLs) and the current status in implementing them into policy within DOD. The remaining time will be used to provide detailed training on how to perform an MRA. The Air Force has discovered that the best way to introduce MRA process is through actually performing an assessment yourself. Therefore we have developed an exercise where we introduce you to a theoretical scenario and company and have you perform an MRA. The benefits have been outstanding in previous exercises where individuals strongly believe the exercise de-mystifies the MRA process and demonstrates how to implement an MRA in a cost effective manner. For any government agency or contractor who is considering performing an MRA, we strongly recommend you attend this session. You will walk away with a good understanding on where DOD is heading with the implementation of MRLs, and more importantly, a good understanding on how to effectively and efficiently perform MRAs at your facility. It should be noted that you should not plan on attending the second session of the MRL’s activities if you missed the first session, since it is a carryover on what was presented in the first session.
  • Smart Machine Platform Initiative/Factory of the Future
    Mr. Walter Roy
Organizer This workshop will feature speakers from the US Army (ARDEC), Industry (BAE, TechSolve, and the Association for Manufacturing Technology) and other organizations.
  • Topics will include:
    - SMPI/FOF Program Overview
    - Model Based Enterprise
    - Process Modeling State-of-the-Art
    - MT Connect-Universal Communication
    - Knowledge Management for Improved Machining Efficiency
    - Dynamic Metrology
    - Next Steps to the Future

  • Re-Manufacturing Technologies and Life Cycle Cost Implications
    TBD
  • DOD Corrosion Prevention Advisory Team (CPAT) Workshop
    Mr. Michael Carpenter, DOD CPAT
Mr. Richard Kinzie, OSC Corrosion Policy and Oversight, PCI
Corrosion Prevention Advisory Team (CPAT) Workshop - This workshop is being provided to any professional interested in helping to prevent or mitigate corrosion in their systems. Corrosion is a pervasive issue that costs the DOD over $13B annually in maintenance. The highest leverage point for reducing that burden is design and manufacturing. But it takes more than engineers and materials specialists to fix this. It takes management in industry and the government to develop and manage a corrosion prevention and control program. The CPAT is key to assuring that DOD and industry systems managers plan for, execute and sustain corrosion prevention and control throughout the lifecycle. The CPAT and the Contractor Corrosion Team (CCT) are the virtual teams that plan, conduct and implement the Corrosion Prevention and Control Plan for the program or project manager, and advises the PM and other members of the development, procurement and sustainment team on how to implement good CPC practices. CPAT and CCT membership includes both government and industry qualified professionals. The CPAT Workshop is a part of the training for program professionals, explaining 1) the duties of CPAT/CCT members, 2) how to conduct a CPAT or CCT, 3) actions to make a CPAT/CCT successful, 4) the appropriate timing for these actions in a the life-cycle, and 5) the attributes that are present when a system is supported by a good corrosion prevention and control program. This workshop is designed to arm program professionals with the knowledge they need to help create, implement and/or support a CPAT or a CCT, no matter what the size of the program or project.
